ROOMIES
BackgroundRoomies was Paul's first full-length play. It was produced twice. First by MUN Drama in 1995 and the following year by Island Stages Productions.
The play tells the story of two college roommates. David, a clean cut scholarly student living with a disability and Nick, a 'James Dean' type with a chip on his shoulder to go along with his manipulative nature. Taking place in the late 1960s, the story follows the development of this friendship through the course of one school year. Dorm monitor, Diane, and house mother, Miss Cracker, add comedy to the play. A critical and audience success the play was heralded for its natural dialogue, comedy and insight into living with a disability. Admittedly biographical, Paul also acted in the play after spending several seasons on the theatre scene and wishing to create an acting opportunity for persons with a disability. The script calls for the character of David to have a physical disability. Roomies captured an award for dramatic script from the Nova Scotia Federation of Writers. Media Coverage |
